Tornado Drill

STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL

A statewide Tornado Watch Drill will be issued on April 12th at 1:00pm, followed by a Tornado Warning Drill at 1:45pm, and a second Tornado Warning Drill at 6:45pm. Radio and TV stations across the state will be participating in these drills, in addition to alerts being issued on NOAA weather radios. Schools, businesses, and families are encouraged to test their emergency preparedness plans during this time.

Barron County will be activating our countywide severe weather sirens during the 1:45pm and 6:45pm drills.

These drills are part of the annual spring severe weather campaign to encourage everyone in Wisconsin to be ready for tornadoes and severe weather. According to the National Weather Service, Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes annually. Most recent events include the EF-3 Tornado that struck Barron, Rusk, and Price Counties in 2017, killing one and injuring 25 and an outbreak of 10 tornadoes on June 14th 2017 throughout Shawano, Winnebago, Outagamie, Brown, and Waushara Counties.

Please take this opportunity to talk with co-workers and family members about your severe weather plans and practice your response.
